design-element

Today, the mainly used pigments for coatings in the outdoor area are of synthetic or inorganic origin. Their synthesis and the retrieval of raw materials needed for their synthesis are often harmful to the environment and not sustainable. The research on alternative and sustainable pigments was the subject of the project “ColorProtect”. Many fungi can produce a broad range of pigments as secondary metabolites. Within the project such fungi were grown, and their pigments were extracted. After investigation of the pigment stability pigments were formulated into coatings that were tested on their durability.
