Grain Deviation

research area: Raw & construction materials
project status: completed
design-element

The focus of this project is on the local and global fibre deviation of sawn timber, which is not adequately recorded by common sorting principles. With the help of new, microwave-based methods, this fibre deviation is to be determined and used in the sorting.

The fiber angle is measured for the first time in a very small resolution in all three spatial directions. As part of the measurement, information about the wood moisture and the bulk density is also generated, which can also help to improve mechanical sorting.
