Hail resistance
Coating systems for exterior wood should be significantly improved with regards to its resistance to hail. This need exists because the usual types of softwood that are used outdoors with coatings have a low surface hardness compared to other building materials. The clarification of the processes in the development of consequential damage after hailstorm provides a foundation. The aim is developing solutions for the entire system of wooden foundation coating. Improvements in the mechanical film properties of the coating, the use of self-healing mechanisms and the modifications of the wooden substrate are sought.
