InnoGrading
Currently, strength grading of sawn timber is almost exclusively done at the end of the processing chain. Thus, unsuitable timber is pushed through processes like drying and planing only to be rejected at the end, wasting raw material and energy. In the project InnoGrading, we develop a new concept for multi-stage machine strength grading to improve raw material and energy efficiency, to increase robustness against raw material quality fluctuations and to enable an optimal material allocation to the various target products. Broad support by the Austrian wood processing industry confirms and ensures the practical relevance of the new strength grading concept.
