In this European research project, methods for a reliable service life prediction of coated wooden components outdoors are worked out. The aim is to make valid estimations of the service life of exterior wood coatings depending on different wood substrates and climatic conditions at respectively different locations. For this purpose, a number of coating materials with a very wide range of properties are weathered at various locations in Europe, and service life prediction models are developed based on the data obtained.
