SIDecA

research area: Energetic use

design-element

AGES, Holzforschung Austria, BE2020+ and BOKU, as well as several companies, extensively researched the plant Sida hermaphrodita as an energy plant in the SIDecA project. HFA characterized the crop as a solid biofuel and examined the production of SIDA fuel pellets both with the stationary method and with the new mobile pelleting technology from SCM. The plant represents an interesting alternative to short-rotation wood and miscanthus and distinguishes itself as a plant-friendly fuel with moderate ash content and favourable combustion properties. The pelleting ability is similar to that of softwood.
