SimBraWood

research area: Building & living
project status: completed
design-element

The aim of this project is to research and master the numerical simulation of the fire behavior of wooden structures in order to largely replace complex and expensive fire tests in the future. The basis for the numerical models is created by measuring the thermophysical building material data in the high-temperature range and by validating it with appropriately instrumented small and large fire tests. Together with our partner institutes IBS and ÖGI within a cooperation laboratory of Austrian Cooperative Research (ACR) the acquisition of a simulation infrastructure (hardware and software) as well as the know-how structure for the CFD / FEM modeling was planned in order to be able to develop sufficiently realistic models.
