The aim of the project "Simulation-based optimisation of sawn timber production" was to model the process chain from round timber to sawn timber for spruce logs processed in Austria. The simulation models are based on a comprehensive data basis that includes all current scanning technologies. Based on these models, optimisation measures with regard to yield and product quality which are applicable for companies of all sizes were derived. Furthermore, the database developed serves to work out optimised strength profiles in order to use the raw material wood in the best possible way with regard to preserving resources.
