The goal of the project was the prediction of the probability of bluestain on sawn timber based on the interaction of different variables. The essential foundations for predicting the sensitivity to bluestain were based on modern methods. The chemical and microscopic information, which was obtained using several mapping methods (e.g. Raman and infrared spectroscopy), was combined in a common data structure ("hypercube"). The new insights help to develop novel strategies in the field of wood protection.
