The incomparable flair of many european city centres is based on the historic building stock with its finely structured façades and traditional casement windows. Due to the very long use of the buildings and windows, there is now a need for action after more than 100 years of use to upgrade the box-type windows to be fit for another century. The aim of the project was to develop and document a comprehensive refurbishment concept for the repair and modernization of box-type windows (without listed buildings). In addition to the technical performance aspects, the ecological and economic aspects was also examined. The project was completed in 2025.
