ReFurniture

research area: Building & living
project status: ongoing
design-element

The furniture industry has a significant environmental impact, yet circular economy practices are scarcely established and many furniture items end up as bulky waste. ReFurniture addresses key barriers and aims to develop lightweight, durable, and easily disassemblable designs that enable repairability and upgradeability. The use of second-hand furniture is strengthened, durability is assessed using new methods and sensor systems and surface and hardware repairs are evaluated. EU eco-design requirements are also considered, while suitable interfaces for the digital product passport are developed, accompanied by a roadmap for circular furniture concepts.
